Restore, Don't Repaint

Restoration first

S&K restores architectural metals by sanding, buffing and polishing, matched to the metal. S&K does not repaint metal; if the finish is past restoring, we will say so.

Test a small, inconspicuous area first, and check it before treating the rest.

Glass & Metal Restoration
Why It Matters

Oxidation does not stay on the metal

Metal mullions that are never cleaned begin to pit and oxidize, and once oxidation takes hold, restoration or replacement is the only option.

Pitting

Shallow pitting can often be improved. Deep pitting means refinishing or replacement.

Streaks on the glass

Oxidation washing off frames stains the glass below and adds to mineral buildup.

Replacement cost

Left too long, the only fix is full window or mullion replacement, a large capital expense.

Prevention

Keep it from returning

  • Include frames and mullions in routine window cleaning
  • Put entrance metal on a maintenance plan
  • Ask about treatments that help prevent future staining
